Anna Tivel - The Question

Ever since we heard Anna Tivel’s song “Dark Chandelier” a few years ago we are spellbound. Anna’s way of drawing her listeners into her songs, the picturesque details of an everyday life, the darkness waiting around the corner, the hope that lies within - she is able to uncover the hidden stories of life in a unique way, presented with an empathic, soothing voice and intensity, and the most wonderful melancholic melodies.

“The Question” is another standout song, a song about the struggles of gender identity. The inspiration for this song came from an encounter on one of Anna’s travels: "It's about being in New York and looking up into a window and seeing a man putting on makeup and a wig," Tivel recalls. "There's a lot of people I know and friends of friends who are transgender, transitioning or just struggling, and having the president sort of waffling backwards on any progress that's been made with that. I started writing this (song) as a poem that night and put it to chords later back at home."

Anna just recently released a quarantine version of her album “The Question”, called “The Question (Live And Alone)” available here.
