Get ready for a very special addition to the Static Roots Festival weekend this year! We're thrilled to announce the Static Ruhr Tour 2025, and our destination is a true gem in a city that's getting some serious attention: the legendary Lichtburg in Essen!
Mark your calendars for Friday, July 11th, 2025. We'll kick off our adventure bright and early.
Here's the plan:
- Meet: 10:30 AM at Oberhausen Hauptbahnhof (main station).
- Travel: We'll hop on a public train together for a short ride to Essen Hauptbahnhof.
- Explore: From Essen station, it's just a leisurely five-minute stroll to the magnificent Lichtburg.
Static Ruhr Tour 2025: Why Essen & the Lichtburg?
You might have heard the buzz – Essen isn't just any city! According to a recent survey by Booking.com, it's been crowned the #1 trending travel destination in Germany for 2025! Having earned the title of European Green Capital back in 2017, Essen has truly transformed from its industrial roots into a vibrant "green metropolis".
Visitors are raving about its unique blend of nature, culture, and urban experiences. Imagine urban hiking trails along the Baldeneysee, beautiful green oases like the Grugapark, and world-class cultural sites like the UNESCO World Heritage Zeche Zollverein (though our focus this time is the equally stunning Lichtburg!). It's a city that perfectly combines relaxation and discovery. Our trip gives us a wonderful chance to sample the atmosphere of this dynamic and celebrated Ruhr city!
And within this exciting city lies the main event of our tour: the Lichtburg. Steeped in history, this grand venue first opened its doors in 1928! It has survived wartime destruction, seen meticulous restorations, and has always been a beacon for culture. With its stunning architecture and 1250 seats, it’s Germany's largest cinema hall. But it's more than just movies! The Lichtburg boasts an incredible legacy, having hosted glamorous premieres, theatre performances, readings, and concerts on its historic stage. Imagine walking the same halls where film legends like Romy Schneider and Gary Cooper once stood, and where countless music stars have performed over the decades! We'll get a special tour to soak in the unique atmosphere of this iconic landmark.
After the Glamour... Cosy Surprises!
Once we've absorbed the grandeur of the Lichtburg, our tour continues! We'll head over to the wonderful "Leseraum" in Essen. Get ready for some surprise live music (you know we love a good surprise!) accompanied by some tasty food and refreshing drinks. It’s the perfect chance to relax, chat, and enjoy some tunes in a cosy setting – maybe even reflecting on Essen's welcoming hospitality that the article mentioned!
A Little Bookish Detour?
Side note for the bookworms: While at the Leseraum, you'll notice that Marion's and Johanna's fantastic independent bookstore Proust wörter & schönes is less than a stone's throw away. Feel free to pop over for a browse if you fancy a literary treat!
Back in Time for the Festival!
We aim to be back at Oberhausen Hauptbahnhof around 3:00 PM. This gives you plenty of time to freshen up, grab a bite, and get ready for the main event – the Static Roots Festival kicks off with the first band hitting the stage at 5:00 PM!
This Static Ruhr Tour 2025 promises to be a fantastic day trip, blending a taste of Germany's top trending city, history, good company, and of course, music!
