Can you believe it has been ten years? From our very first chord in 2016 to the 10th Anniversary edition in 2026, the Static Roots Festival has been a labor of love, fueled by a simple motto: roots music to feed your soul.
We’ve spent a decade curating line-ups that defy boundaries and expectations, turning the Zentrum Altenberg in Oberhausen into a sanctuary for high-quality Americana, Folk, and everything in between.
We are proud to be known as "the best little festival you can go to anywhere" - a place where the music is intimate, the atmosphere is friendly, and the memories last a lifetime.
This year, our slogan is "Chasing the shiver since 2016". It’s a tribute to every spine-tingling moment we’ve shared so far, and a promise of the magic to come.

Some mornings the inbox surprises you. We opened a message from Winnipeg and there it was: the artwork for our 10th anniversary, ready to meet the world. The kestrel takes flight again. This time with a key clutched in its talons. A key, because for ten years now we have been opening doors.
The scroll across the bird reads what it reads: "Chasing the shiver since 2016." It is not a slogan. It is a confession. And this year, for the first time, the full lineup sits beneath the kestrel - twelve names, each one chosen for the same reason they always are: because they gave someone a shiver.

The Static Ruhr Tour Comes Home
Was war hier. Was ist hier. Was kommt als nächstes.
For nearly as long as the festival has existed, Friday morning has belonged to the Static Ruhr Tour. A small group, a curated walk, a meal somewhere with character, a return in time for the first band. Past years have taken us out to Zollverein, Villa Hügel, the inland harbour, the Lichtburg.
For our 10th anniversary, the tour stays inside Oberhausen's own city limits for the first time. The 2026 walk goes to the Neue Mitte: 143 hectares that were once the Gutehoffnungshütte, lost forty–seven thousand jobs through the closures of the late 1960s, and became the answer the city built in its own middle. Strukturwandel you can walk through. Our four guides come from Oberhausen Tourismus and have built the morning around that theme.

One of the undisputed highlights of Static Roots 2025 returns - and this time they are bringing a brand new record. The Southern Fold, the five-piece from Kilkenny, Ireland, walked onto our stage last year and simply took the room with them, song by song, story by story. Weeks later, people were still talking about them.
Now they come back to launch that album, Beneath The Blaze Of The Burning Sun, out on Juke Joint 500 - the label run by Glitterhouse founder Reinhard Holstein. One band, one night, the evening before the festival begins. Arrive early. Discover Essen-Werden. Let the weekend start the way it should.

The Zentrum Altenberg is one of the most extraordinary cultural venues in the Ruhr region - a former industrial zinc complex that carries both history and atmosphere in its walls. Once you've experienced a concert here, ordinary venues feel insufficient.
Oberhausen is easily reached by rail from across NRW and beyond. Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) is under 40 minutes away. Whether you're coming from Amsterdam (NL), Cologne, Essen, Dortmund, or flying in internationally, getting here is straightforward.
This is not a muddy field in the middle of nowhere. It's a city festival with an intimate soul - bars, restaurants, hotels all within walking distance. Come for the weekend. Make a trip of it.
