Ben de la Cour @ Static Roots Festival 2026

Americanoir, Southern Gothic, and a touch of Magic: Ben de la Cour comes to Oberhausen!

For our next announcement, I want to take you back to a specific moment. It was a Monday afternoon at last year's Kilkenny Roots Festival. The weekend was winding down, but Cleere's Bar & Theater was absolutely packed to the rafters.

I managed to squeeze in, and on stage was Ben de la Cour.

Within moments, I understood why the room was full. He didn't just play songs; he cast a spell. He held that crowded room in the palm of his hand, spreading a kind of dark, beautiful magic that is rare to find. I knew right then and there: We need this artist at the Static Roots Festival.

And now, with Ben currently tearing up stages across Europe as support for the legendary Lucinda Williams, the timing couldn't be more perfect to welcome him to our 10th Anniversary family!

About Ben de la Cour

Born in London, raised in Brooklyn, and now living in the heart of Nashville, Ben de la Cour has lived a life that reads like a novel. Heโ€™s a former metalhead and amateur boxer who has lived on the streets, and you can hear every mile of that hard road in his voice.

His music is often described as "Americanoir" or "Southern Gothic". It is dark, haunting, and deeply poetic, channeling the spirits of Townes Van Zandt, Mark Lanegan, and Nick Cave. On his latest album, New Roses, he dives even deeper, blending his adept acoustic fingerpicking with atmospheric, experimental sounds.

The Lucinda Seal of Approval

You don't just have to take my word for it. Ben is currently on tour supporting the icon herself, Lucinda Williams. After catching his show in a tiny Nashville club, she said: "It didnโ€™t take long to realise I was in the presence of greatness."

What to Expect Expect

A performance that is equal parts "dramatic goth-Americana" and "wounded blues". Ben is a storyteller of the highest caliber, painting pictures of desperate characters and "dark nights of the soul".

If you like your roots music with a little bit of danger, a lot of atmosphere, and lyrics that cut straight to the bone, this is the set you cannot miss.
