The Gift of Life and Big Heart Music: Jesper Lindell returns for our 10th Anniversary!
In early 2022, I took my very first flight after the long, quiet years of the pandemic. My destination was Gothenburg, Sweden. The reason? To see Jesper Lindell and his band play a show at Hotel Eggers, right in the city centre. Walking into that room, hearing the hum of the crowd, and then feeling the sheer force of Jesper’s soulful roots‑rock wash over the audience… it was indescribable. It felt like someone had finally flipped the “life switch” back on. But my connection to Jesper runs much deeper than just the music.
The Gift of Love and the Beauty of Life
Both Jesper and I share a bond that goes beyond the stage: we are both kidney transplant recipients. Jesper, battling a congenital kidney disease that worsened during the pandemic, underwent dialysis before receiving the life‑saving gift of a kidney from his father in late 2021. I, too, know the immense physical and emotional suffering of being on dialysis. And I also know the overwhelming, miraculous joy of salvation, having received my kidney transplant from my beautiful wife, Marion. Jesper and I both know what it means to face the darkness of a failing body. But more importantly, we both know the profound gift of love and the breathtaking beauty of a second chance at life. When Jesper sings, you can hear that deep appreciation for life in every single note. It is the ultimate embodiment of “Big Heart Music.”
The Return of Our Swedish Brother
Since that magical night in Gothenburg, Jesper’s music has been a constant companion. For four consecutive years, I have travelled to Falkenberg, Sweden, to see him tearing it up at the wonderful Rootsy Music Summerfest. We’ve also had the immense pleasure of hosting him right here in Oberhausen for our “Static Roots Presents” series in 2023 and 2024. So when it came time to curate the lineup for our 10th Anniversary in 2026, there was absolutely no way we could celebrate without him. Please welcome back our Swedish brother, Jesper Lindell!
