Scottish Americana Royalty: Kirsten Adamson brings The Tanagers to Oberhausen!
For this next announcement, I have to take a little trip down memory lane. Back in my adolescent years, the schoolyard was often divided by one serious musical debate: Who was the better band? Was it U2? Or was it Big Country?
I have fond memories of those discussions. And while the answer might be subjective, there is no denying the legacy of Stuart Adamson. It is a special kind of "full circle" moment to announce that his daughter, the award-winning singer-songwriter Kirsten Adamson, will be gracing our stage in 2026.
But make no mistake: Kirsten is not just "the daughter of." She is a powerhouse in her own right.
A Star in Her Own Orbit
I first witnessed Kirstenโs magic at the Americana UK Music Week in London a few years ago, where she was rightfully nominated for a "Song of the Year" award for "My Father's Songs". I also caught her set at the Ramblin' Roots Revue in High Wycombe, and both times, I was struck by the sheer command she has over a room.
Hailing from Edinburgh, Kirsten summons a vocal purity that stops you in your tracks - think Sandy Denny meets Emmylou Harris, with a touch of Kate Bush. Her latest album, Dreamviewer (2025), is a leaner, more assured step forward, capturing an artist who has moved beyond "promise" and into total control of her craft.
Kirsten Adamson & The Tanagers
For the Static Roots Festival 2026, Kirsten isn't coming alone. She is bringing her fantastic band, The Tanagers, to help bring these songs to life. Together, they deliver a mix of "heartland Americana folk rock" that is destined to be a highlight of our 10th Anniversary weekend.
Whether she is channeling the "demure delivery of Nanci Griffith" or the "delicacy of Dolly Parton", Kirsten Adamson is an artist who feeds the soul.
We are honored to welcome Americana royalty to Oberhausen.
