Icecream Hands - Can You Feel My Love

Static Roots Festival - stay safe sessions - episode #017

“for a masterclass in not just the art of songwriting but the joy of melody and message, you can start with No Weapon But Love.”

Icecream Hands album "No Weapon But Love" is one of our favorite albums of 2020. The positive energy of the album almost instantly grabs you, makes you hum along, sing along, makes you an addict. Icecream Hands' message is as current as can be: "Love one another. Cherish every moment, every show, every song, every friendship."

We feel absolutely privileged to have been asked to present the world premiere for Icecream Hands third single, "Can You Feel My Love". An incredible love song, so well constructed and orchestrated, it's close to musical perfection. In particular during the second verse, when Douglas Lee Robertson sings "I will see you in June, through the window to your room", accompanied by the most beautiful jangling guitars, the perfect harmonies set in, and the bass line climbs up to new heights, culminating in the glorious chorus ... this is like The Byrds playing Bob Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man". Gold!

We want to see this band live, arm in arm with friends or strangers, singing along at the top of our lungs, and we can't wait to make a show happen some day in the not too distant future.

Can you feel our love for the Icecream Hands?

About Icecream Hands

Forming in Melbourne in 1992, Icecream Hands - band members Charles Jenkins (guitar, vocals), Douglas Lee Robertson (bass, vocals), Derek G Smiley (drums, vocals) and Marcus Goodwin (guitar, vocals) – are master craftsmen, with a knack for delivering harmony drenched, guitar driven melodic rock. With six albums under their belt along with two ARIA nominations, their new album “No Weapon But Love” is the band’s first album since 2007’s acclaimed “The Good China”.

The new album explores the idea of love as a powerful force; love lost, love unrealised, love gained, love forgotten and remembered and the uplifting kind as well – an antidote for the struggles of 2020.

For our “stay safe sessions” Icecream Hands contributed the song “Can You Feel My Love” taken off the album “No Weapon But Love”.

Steeped in good vibes, the theme on “No Weapon But Love” is Love. Says music journalist Bernard Zuel, “No Weapon But Love” is “a slice of early ‘70s George Harrison without the heavy hand of Phil Spector - if you aren’t echoing the ‘love love love love love’ backing vocals by the 90 second mark I’m afraid you are clinically deaf. Or dead.”

“Can You Feel My Love” takes you on a journey of lush harmonies, dulcet vocal tones, and sleek guitar craftsmanship leaving just the sweet sentiment of grooving guitar pop.

We put together the “stay safe sessions” series not only to present great music and amazing talents, but also to support the musicians during these difficult times. If you would like to support the artist, please PayPal to:
