A Unique Blend of Storytelling and Song: Willy Vlautin and Freddy Trujillo at Static Roots Festival 2024

A Unique Blend of Storytelling and Song: Willy Vlautin and Freddy Trujillo at Static Roots Festival 2024

On Saturday, July 13th, at 1pm, the renowned author and songwriter Willy Vlautin will be hosting a book reading session at the “Kino Walzenlager” of the Zentrum Altenberg. This session is part of the Static Roots Festival 2024, which has already sold out, highlighting the growing popularity and anticipation surrounding this unique festival.

Praise for "The Horse"

Willy Vlautin's latest book, "The Horse" has been described as his most satisfying work to date. The Irish Times praises it for its central music narrative adorned with vivid vignettes of offbeat, misfit characters tuned to the broken-down key of life. The book delves into the life of Al Ward, a washed-up sixtysomething musician, as he embarks on a seemingly quixotic equine-rescue mission. Through Al's redemptive journey, Vlautin masterfully intertwines tender, torn, and frayed episodes of wrecks, drugs, and rock’n’roll, creating a narrative that is as compelling as it is heart-wrenching.

The book will be available for purchase at the reading session and at the festival's merchandise table, allowing fans to delve deeper into Vlautin’s captivating storytelling.

Special Guests and Music

We are delighted to have the wonderful music journalist Nick West from London (Bucketfull of Brains) as the presenter for Willy Vlautin’s reading. His insights and passion for music will undoubtedly add depth to the session.

The reading will kick off with a few songs by Freddy Trujillo, the bass player with The Delines. Freddy will be presenting his new album, "I Never Threw A Shadow At It" a deeply personal and musically ambitious project. Americana-UK.com describes the album as a thoughtful and moving record that explores Trujillo’s Chicano roots and personal experiences. With contributions from The Delines’ members and production by Cory Gray, this album stands as a testament to Trujillo’s talent and versatility as a songwriter.
