The Dreaming Spires @ Static Roots Festival 2026

A Reunion of Musical Kinship: The Dreaming Spires Join the 10th Anniversary!

Sometimes the connections run deeper than you think. Sometimes a festival isn’t just a stage and some speakers - it’s a web of stories, friendships, and musical kinships that stretches across years.

The Dreaming Spires are a band that feels like family to Static Roots, even before they’ve ever played here. Robin Bennett was at the heart of one of the most phenomenal moments in our festival’s history when Bennett Wilson Poole played their first-ever German gig at the Static Roots Festival in 2018 - a show that still gives me goosebumps when I think about it.

His brother Joe Bennett brought us to tears with Pete Gow & The Siren Strings at Static Roots 2022, where he played keyboards and served as the producer and sonic architect behind that extraordinary performance. And Tom Collison, the band’s keyboard wizard, is a UK Americana Awards Instrumentalist of the Year. These are musicians whose paths have crossed with ours again and again.

And then there’s the music. The very first Dreaming Spires song I ever heard was "Dusty In Memphis" and from the opening bars, I was pulled in completely. There’s a moment in that song where the music just opens up, and Robin sings about growing up, about music setting him free - and I remember fully identifying with those words. It’s one of those rare songs that makes you feel understood. Live, it transforms into something even bigger: a long, epic singalong where the whole room joins in and you just know: "You Know We’ve Got Soul!"

That’s exactly the kind of moment we live for at Static Roots. We are incredibly proud and excited to welcome The Dreaming Spires to Oberhausen!

About The Dreaming Spires

The Dreaming Spires are an acclaimed five-piece from Oxfordshire, England, built around brothers Robin and Joe Bennett. Their sound weaves together the jangly harmonies of The Byrds, the power-pop hooks of Big Star, and the widescreen storytelling of Americana - all filtered through a distinctly British sensibility.

Robin and Joe previously fronted the early-2000s indie band Goldrush, who signed to Virgin Records, and have spent the last decade touring the world as part of Saint Etienne’s live band. The lineup is completed by Jamie Dawson on drums, Tom Collison on keyboards and synths, and Nick Fowler on guitar: all of them in-demand musicians in their own right, with credits spanning Danny & the Champions of the World, Gaz Coombes, Peter Buck, Annie Keating, and Carter Sampson.

Their debut album Brothers in Brooklyn (2013) was hailed as a classic, while follow-up Searching for the Supertruth (2015) earned nominations for Album and Artist of the Year at the inaugural UK Americana Awards. Americana UK even placed it in their Top 10 British Americana Albums of the 21st Century.

A New Chapter - Normal Town

After nearly a decade of silence, The Dreaming Spires returned in November 2025 with Normal Town, their third album on Clubhouse Records. Inspired by their hometown of Didcot - once dubbed "England’s most normal town" - the album is a love letter to the places that shape us, an honest look at nostalgia, alienation, and the beauty hidden in ordinary life. It draws on the spirit of The Who, Jeff Lynne, and the Everly Brothers, blending their signature roots-infused sound with chamber pop textures and a subtle layer of political commentary. A record that proves some things are absolutely worth waiting for.

What to Expect - The Dreaming Spires at Static Roots Festival 2026

Expect anthemic singalongs, shimmering harmonies, and the kind of onstage chemistry that only comes from musicians who share decades of history. The Dreaming Spires live are a band that believes in the power of a melody and the magic of a room full of people singing together. From the epic build of "Dusty In Memphis" to the urgent drive of "Stolen Car" and the wistful beauty of "Normal Town," this will be a set to remember. Roots music to feed your soul.

Welcome to the Family

The Dreaming Spires are the kind of band that Static Roots Festival was built for - brilliant songwriters, generous performers, musicians with soul. We can’t wait to welcome them to Oberhausen on 10 & 11 July 2026. See you there.
