Willie Meighan and the Kilkenny Roots Festival

A tip of the hat to a total legend

The always excellent Kilkenny Roots Festival was the biggest inspiration to finally initiate the Static Roots Festival. To me Willie Meighan, one of the organisers of the KKR, has become the face of the festival, he is the heart of the Kilkenny Roots family and the driving force of the Kilkenny music scene. Many of the amazing acts that I got to know through Willie, played fantastic shows at the Static Roots Festival or in our house concert series at Raumfahrtzentrum Saarner Kuppe e. g. John Blek & the Rats, Malojian, Anna Mitchelll, The Midnight Union Band

Whenever I had questions about the organisation of the festival, about booking acts (and complaints about booking agents), Willie had some advice. He is a total role model for a guy working in the music business – he is enthusiastic, one of the friendliest guys you’ll ever get to meet (although he tries to seem grumpy), he’s got a great sense of humour, he is honest, reliable and generous. If you ever met Willie, you know you can only love this guy.

So starting from Static Roots Festival 2018 we’ll dedicate a festival slot to Willie and have an Irish (or Kilkenny Roots related) act play in Willie’s honour. A tip of the hat to a total legend! ❤️
