Silver Lining @ Static Roots Festival 2026

There's something about Norway that keeps calling us back.

Over the past few years, Norwegian artists have become a beloved thread in the fabric of Static Roots Festival. It started with Malin Pettersen, whose voice, warmth, and energy left an impression that still resonates with everyone who was there. Then came Louien - Live Miranda Solberg - with songs so tender they could stop time. Ole Kirkeng brought his raw, road-worn storytelling. And Embla & The Karidotters filled the room with harmonies that felt like they'd been singing together for a hundred years. Norway, as it turns out, has one of the most extraordinary Americana scenes in Europe. And we've only scratched the surface.

This time, the Norwegian connection runs even deeper. A few years ago, I booked Silver Lining for a show at Walzenlager Kino at Zentrum Altenberg. I'd heard the name, I knew Louien was involved, but nothing quite prepared me for what happened that evening. From the very first note, it was spectacularly magical, there's no other way to describe it. Three voices intertwining with an effortless intimacy that made the room disappear. Golden harmonies that felt less like a performance and more like a gift.

When it came time to announce the final act for Static Roots Festival 2026, there was no question. Silver Lining had to be the one.

And here's a beautiful full-circle moment: Malin Pettersen, who graced our stage herself, created the artwork and photography for Silver Lining's latest release, "Four Little Songs". The Norwegian Americana family keeps growing, and the roots keep intertwining. That's what this music does. That's what this festival is about.

About Silver Lining

Silver Lining is an indie-folk quartet from Oslo, Norway, often described as a Norwegian supergroup. The band brings together three distinctive vocalists and songwriters: Stine Andreassen of The Northern Belle, Live Miranda Solberg (known to the Static Roots family as Louien), and Halvor Falck Johansen, along with Bjรธrnar Ekse Brandseth on electric guitars, pedal steel, and dobro.

The band's story began in 2015 when members of the then-emerging Oslo bands The Northern Belle and Rattlers came together to perform Gillian Welch's album "Soul Journey" in full at the now-closed Crossroad Club in Oslo. That one-off tribute show was such a success that the musicians decided to keep going. And the rest is history.

Their debut EP "I'll Be Waiting for You (In the Grey)" arrived in 2017, with the single "Grey" surpassing a million streams on Spotify. The debut album "Heart and Mind Alike" followed in 2018, and by 2022, their sophomore album "Go Out Nowhere" expanded their sound significantly, working with a rhythm section from Norwegian instrumental trio Orions Belte and drawing comparisons to The Band, Erin Rae, First Aid Kit, and Alison Krauss & Union Station.

Over the past decade, Silver Lining has been nominated for a Spellemann Award (Norway's equivalent of the Grammy), earned critical praise across the board, and toured extensively across Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands. The band has accumulated tens of millions of streams and celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2025.

New Chapter

In October 2025, Silver Lining released "Four Little Songs", a covers EP that returns to the spirit of how it all began, paying tribute to the songwriters they love. The EP features two Gillian Welch interpretations: "One Little Song," which lends its name to the release, and "Make Me a Pallet on Your Floor," an old American folk tune with new lyrics by Welch, sung with soul by Halvor Falck Johansen. The other two tracks are more recent favourites: Jason Isbell's stunning love ballad "If We Were Vampires," performed as a duet by Stine and Live Miranda, and Waxahatchee and MJ Lenderman's "Right Back to It" - widely hailed as 2024's best song - now given a warm, folky Silver Lining twist. It's a beautiful, stripped-back collection that showcases what this band does best: take a song and make it unmistakably their own through those golden harmonies.

What to Expect

At Static Roots Festival 2026, Silver Lining will perform as a trio: Stine, Live Miranda, and Halvor. With acoustic guitars and three voices that blend like they were made for each other. If anything, the trio format makes the magic even more intimate. Expect harmonies that give you goosebumps, songs that feel like conversations between old friends, and a warmth that fills the room from the first note to the last. This is voice-first Americana at its most beautiful.

We couldn't think of a more perfect way to complete this year's lineup. Silver Lining is the last artist announcement for Static Roots Festival 2026, and it feels right - like the final piece of a puzzle clicking into place. Welcome to the family, Silver Lining. Oberhausen is ready.

"Their harmonies have that quality where one voice complements the other, and their guitar work is understated but incredibly effective. It felt like witnessing a group of friends doing what they love.โ€

-- The Influences

โ€œThe music transcends geography, borders and language. It's a feeling, a spirit with rural soul. There's nothing here that's not Americana even though it originates miles away in Norway.โ€
