Record Collector magazine about Static Roots Festival 2017

“Static Roots Festival

View: sun-drenched

A German industry museum with a cobbled courtyard was a charming setting for an unusual feast of rock, country and soul. Day One was ruled by a storming show from Peter Bruntnell and band, followed by the soaring anthems and engaging presence of John Blek & The Rats, explaining the strong Irish element in the audience.

Saturday saw beautiful, understated songwriting and sensitive performances from Nadine Khouri and Erin Rae & The Meanwhiles, kicking off their Euro tour. Two Davids (Ford of the UK and Corley from Indiana) gave strong performances, and German Americana band, Torpus & The Art Directors, proved a surprise hit. The temperature rose to boiling-point as Danny & The Champions Of The World cemented their reputation as one of the UK’s finest live bands, with a massive set of country-soul. Prost!
